Title: Becker Mexico TR plastic pin-stripe panel removal
Post by: majercak on April 05, 2021, 18:34:54
Hey folks,

I have Becker Mexico TR - slim face in my '67 230SL. The plastic pin stripe panel is cracked. I've managed to buy a replacement and would like to change it. I can remove the complete face plate in one piece (chrome rim, metal supports, metal rim, plastic pin-stripe panel etc.) no problem. But have been trying to figure out for few days, how to take it apart so I can replace the plastic pin stripe panel inside.... Anyone any suggestions? The complete face plate seems pretty sturdy, metal parts quite solid (maybe press fit together?) Prying seems like the only option, but would have to be with significant force.

Thank you for any advise.

You need to remove two locking pins as shown in the photos and then proceed as shown.
Depending on the strength of the spring-steel plate it might take some force.

Oh my, great help! Thank you.

Was it posted somewhere on the Forum? I swear I searched and read through the Forum for 2 days straight.

Thank you.

Curious - how do you remove the locking pins?

Marek,
I don't think I ever posted these photos.

Scott,
are you pulling my leg? Just pry them out.

No, I thought they were stick in really tight or something.  I'll experiment with the ones I have.  Thanks!

Scott:
When you do this take a few detail photos, mine are not sharp enough to show the details.
I remember that I used single edge razor blade to get behind the head and lift up. Might have broken a few blades.  :D
Perhaps one can get behind the pin with a 90 degree poker and push, but don't know.
