Title: Any idea what these may have been for?
Post by: Merc_Girl on March 21, 2021, 20:47:36
Sorry, me again!

So, in the area where the soft top folds into, there are two holes drilled with what looks like a triangle impression around them.

Given how tight it is to get the soft top into, I can’t image there would be room for a bracket for anything to clip into?

Any thoughts

Thanks
Katie

I think the bulk of the frame folds behind these holes maybe, so some space could have been there. I thought at first there might have been something underneath that shelf, but then these triangle imprints would be a question mark - you would normally have some kind of washers traces...

You got me puzzled...

They look to me like witness marks from something after-market being fitted. Certainly not original.

A bit weird though, no?

Especially being triangular......

Powell66, I thought that as well, but then I thought more likely to have circular washers, so as you say, that doesn’t work.....

Still can’t think why you would put a bracket, or whatever it was, there, given it’s not easily accessible!

Strange.........

Underneath, in the trunk space, I could think of speaker, amplifier, CD changer, power supply unit of some sort...

These kind of markings can be left by some sort of handle or bracket.

Unless there was a bracket holding something below the shelf. If it had cross-section at the base of the shapes you see, it could have had something like mounting plates to go on the other side of metal sheet (just like we have for rear view mirrors that attach to doors). These mounting plates could have had the shape of the cross-section of the bracket base. Then they would leave the marks you see...
