Hello all, I'm in the process of installing my speedometer cable. No instruments installed yet. Once the speedometer cable comes through the fire wall, is it loose all the way to the transmission or is it supported along the way to the transmission, and if so, how is it supported? Thanks in advance. 1970 280SL; manual trans. Thanks in advance. Lee

On the 230SL (1966), it is supported and aligned at the transmission with a small bracket mounted to the transmission. Nothing from there to the firewall (at least on my car).

Thanks Harry,
This is exactly what I needed to know. I do that long thin bracket across the top of the transmission. Just seemed like there should be something in between but it also makes sense that the cable goes in a nice smooth arc.
Thanks again. Letting it swing in the breeze - the speedo cable that is.
