Let me share my recent findings done while digging for details of 190SL soft top. The upper female part is not 17mm, as may be required for carpets, but 17mm is one of the standards, so it is easy to get (DOT DURABLE not seen there). You certainly need punch tools to rivet the snaps, but those are non-expensive and easy to get too.

Thanks Pawel,  Like many other things my snap project has gotten out of hand.
