Last time I saw a discussion on this topic Bosch had 6V vintage batteries. Yesterday I spotted the enclosed pdfs, I am not sure if you have seen it, but I am sharing. If it is known, sorry.
-
So, IF I am reading this correctly, Bosch offers a vintage battery for the 230/250/280SL, which is listed as "F 026 T02 311" on pages 4,20 & 21 of the "mini-katalog."
The question becomes: How would one obtain these on this side of the pond?
-
Are these available in the US?
-
I have not even tried to see if they are available here. Just found this catalogue...
What if you just call Bosch workshop and order it by number with a poker face, as if you were buying soap?
I have just sent an e-mail to a Bosch service nearby, we will see what they will respond.

I saw this Bosch PDF document on vintage batteries last year already. Didn’t think of dropping a note to this community (not proud of that...). I also seem to remember trying to see if I could find this battery for sale on one of our usual suppliers’ website(don’t remember which one), and finding a price around 600€.... (not completely sure). As we say in French: « quand on aime on ne compte pas ! »

I suppose Bosch want to sell as many of these batteries as possible. If that is the case, they do not get it how to. The target for promoting of this battery range is not their services, but the end users - the owners. If they had it for a couple of years - why did I not see it? They have consumer goods divisions, they have the know how. Yet somehow do not recognize that for some of the classic product ranges, the target group is the vehicle owners.
-
Actually for companies like Bosch, the retail customer is not the end user, but the retail establishment selling their goods to the public.
It's very difficult (and expensive) to change your sales model from B2B (business-to-business) to B2C (business-to-consumer)
-
Believe me I realize that. They have consumer goods divisions, they have the know how. I would have thought it is inability to cooperate between various business areas or a choice not to do it - the sales of these product ranges may not be significant enough. Besides - targeting classic cars owners is not that difficult.
-
Absolutely right - inability to coordinate and cooperate between business units within a company is a fatal flaw with most large companies!

A quick Google search of that Bosch part number shows the the battery is for sale through a few online parts sellers in the UK for about £295 and through several online sellers in Europe, including Poland at a parts.pl for 1851 zloty.
I did not find any for sale in the US.
-
I suspect that if enough of our North America based parts vendors who handle components that fit our vehicles were to make inquiries about handling this line of Bosch vintage batteries it might come to pass that they might become available on this side of the pond They won't be inexpensive. but then neither is the modern style M-B battery that has been available through the Classic Center.

Thank you! I will see what the shop nearby says as well, then look into that.
What is discouraging to me is that they say "the battery is delivered charged and dry". apparently this is the battery type where you pour distilled water, unscrew the caps etc., rather than service free modern arrangement. If so, I am not sure if I would go for that...

Pretty sure, that this is the problem limiting distribution of this battery. They are hazardous goods, expensive and challenging to distribute. I have restored several vintage BMW motorcycles and was able to source empty shells with the correct stickers designed to accept modern batteries. I wonder if you can do the same with the larger 12V batteries for our cars. Best of both worlds - vintage look and modern technology.

We did, actually, made the new look like old. Not with the shells though (there are some there), we went another way...

Well. If Pawel is going to show his I have to show mine🤣🤣🤣. $100 battery (7 year warranty) , decal, and some 3D printed parts. 👍
-
Mrfatboy's is, actually, much better detailed and looks more correct than mine.
I have not yet spoken my last word though... :)
-
So, is MrFatboy going to share the 3D printer drawings or let people know where to obtain these or is this to be a trade secret 😁😉
Excuse the naïvety, are the battery cell tops push on or screw, and would these be standard sizing across all battery manufacturers?
Thanks muchly

I already added the 3D files to the tech manual a couple of months ago😜👍👍
Just download and print👍
I just used some silicone to attach. Easy to pull off for next battery.
Decals are in tech manual also from Alpinaltd.
-
Ooh, you all so clever on this tinternet thingy
I’ll go snuffle around again in the manual
Thank you 😁

I think those cap are made specifically for a certain battery brand caps. So are the bases. They look terrific as mrfatboy did them.

What I found out form the Bosch shop:
F 026 T02 311 (this is for Pagoda) is available, 7 days, cost is PLN 2125, which is ca EUR 500.
It is an old type battery: comes charged dry, you have to unscrew caps, pour water, etc.
I was checking also for 190SL , the F 026 T02 314, but they say it is not available.
-
So is this the battery your talking about ?
-
Looks like it, but check the part num ber.
