Hi All,
My 1971 280SL (VIN ending in 019754) was produced around mid to late June 1970. Is there an approximate date range (month and year) for date coded wheels for 1971 model year cars produced in mid to late June 1970? Are there members/owners with a VIN close to mine who can tell me what the date code (month and year) is for their wheels. Thanks!

Nate,
My car is a little older than yours.
The sold anthracite car had, believed to be original to the car, wheels that were dated June of '69. That car was built in August of '69.
My current car was also built in August of '69, but I looked and I don't have pictures of the date codes on the wheels.
I hope this helps.
Mark

My car is a January 1969 build, chassis 007749. My original spare wheel/tire is out of the car and standing in the garage so I went out and shot a picture of the hub. See attached. This wheel is also 1/69!
I recall checking some time ago when I bought the extra wheel I now use as a spare that all the originals were matching SUDRADs but I do not recall if the date stamps were for the same month.
Wheels came from different manufacturers and I think that on a given date, whatever wheels were in stock were applied. I believe that all cars would have normally had wheels from the same manufacturer applied but not necessarily of the exact same date. I think that we can assume that the wheel dates would usually be within a very few months of the car build date. When I have time I will check the dates of my other wheels.

Thanks "neelyrc" and Mark. "neelyrc" please let me know what you find if you're able to check the date codes on the 4 on the ground.
Cheers,
Nate

My car has been built in 9/69 and the wheels are stamped 9/69.

Correct.
:)
My car was built 08/1964 and the 5 wheels are stamped 7 64.

Nate,
I checked today and all four of the wheels on the ground are Sudrad dated 1/69, the same as the original spare.

Thanks for checking and for all of the helpful information!
