Hi everyone
The car is very naked and back to bare metal and is off to the painters very soon. I have a couple of questions about the original/correct features that I'd like to replicate.
Ground points:
On the relay panel the LHD earth is the second hole closest to the fire wall. Is this the same on the RHD car?
Are the earthing points in the boot left bare (ie with a 30mm sticker placed before painting?)
Is the battery negative supposed to have a sticker too?
I can't see an earthing point at all on the RHD side of the RHD engine bay (and I didn't take enough pictures before removing the wiring harness) ... is this correct?
Battery tray colour that the battery sits on ... is this dark grey or body colour?
Body plate on the relay panel - is this painted on a 1964 230SL?
Can't wait to post some progress photos of the painting!!
Thanks

Not sure this will give you the answer you are looking for however, on the old Motoring Investments website, look for the “My Mink” car. I believe he talks about and shows photo of the bare grounding points.

hello Col, not sure about the battery tray color (mine is satin black) but the body plate on the relay panel should be the same color as the car.

Thanks Frank and Charles .. I'm scouring Motoring investments in search of answers!
Is this correct that the stamped body number is also not painted on a 230SL (most of the cars on the motoring investments site are 280SL's)?

Yes. Not painted.

Just not to forget the ground points in headlights wells and one for the wiper motor.

I had found the headlights earths but I've gone through the wiring harness and there isn't an earth in my RHD wiper motor. The only earths my harness has are:
2 boot/trunk
LHS rear cabin just before going into the boot/trunk area
2x headlights
Cold start solenoid
Relay mounting board
In dash near cluster
Plus the main engine earth and negative battery connection
Interestingly there were a couple of areas that had stickers in the doors (photo attached) ... can't think what they were for as these guys didn't have any electrics in the doors that I can think of??

Perhaps this ground point for wiper motor does not exist in RHD. In LHD it is as per the arrow.

It’s primed but not color coated
