Title: Inside paint codes
Post by: mbebrim on January 21, 2021, 09:54:20
Could not find the topic about inside paint codes therefore ask for it
I am starting the painting of the Mercedes Benz 280SL body and have some thought difference with the my painter. I ordered such paint scheme according Mercedes SL club dates:
Base paint Standox Classic  MB 904 - Base Midnight Blue Car and Roof.
Trunk inside: 164 dark grey (Tiefdunkelgrau, DB 164)
Trunk lid, inside: 164 dark grey (Tiefdunkelgrau, DB 164)
Cabrio roof box inside: 164 dark grey (Tiefdunkelgrau, DB 164)
Cabrio roof box lid, inside: 164 dark grey (Tiefdunkelgrau, DB 164)
Wheel wells: body color (Wagenfarbe UT)
Rocker panels/Sills: flat black 169 (matt schwarz DB 169)
Inside of bumpers: white grey 158 (weissgrau DB 158)
But my painter told that:
Trunk inside and lid must be black DB 40 and also cabrio roof box and lid must be black DB 40.
The DB 169 is not black but grey color code.
Please help with this disput.

Well...

DB 169 is not black, it is stein grau (stone gray), quite light colour, actually, since the 50ies, I think. He is right here.

Double check it.

As for the insides of trunk and soft top box, I think you are correct.

I would, however, appreciate the painter's attention here. The worst is ignorance and indifference...

I told my guy to paint the sill covers with a brush having seen some of the "holy grails".

Base paint Standox Classic  MB 904 - Base Midnight Blue Car and Roof.

Standox is a very good quality and pricey paint like Glasurit. Given that your full code is 904G - meaning Glasurit was the original manufacturer, why not go with Glasurit instead? The paint codes ending in H indicate paints manufactured by Herbert Standox. I found using the original manufacturer when I painted my car gave me color closer to the original.
