Title: Rosette for Glove Box..
Post by: Charles 230SL on January 20, 2021, 23:20:08
hello all, I'm planning to install another radio in my 230sl and while I've got the glove box out, I thought I'd install the little rosette that's been missing since I've owned the car. The only one I can find (CONUS) is from Authentic Classics: https://www.authenticclassics.com/Chrome-Glove-Box-Lid-Arm-Rosette-or-Bezel-230SL-p/auth-008064.htm. These little things are expensive! :P. Does anyone know of an alternative source?

Charles,

I am at exactly the same spot as you and about to change over my radio.

I purchased a rosette a few years back from, at the time, the only supplier in US and I can tell you it was a whole lot more than what they are charging now. The following two appear to be the only ones at the moment.

And you think Authentic Classics are expensive.  Have a look at SLS Germany and convert

Authentic $39

SLS Germany 33 Euro.

At one of the blacklicks I purchased a couple of sets from Dave Gallon from southern Calif.
If you can reach him he might have them. They were no where as expensive as posted above.

Garry/Dirk/Tom, thanks guys. I sent Dave Gallon and Mehmet a PM regarding the rosette.

I found a post from Ctaylor (dtd 3/6/2015) that provides outstanding instructions for installation of the rosette: https://www.sl113.org/forums/index.php?topic=22023.msg157124#msg157124. I gotta admit that I'm beginning to lose heart after learning the door has to be removed - realigning the door, the glove box shell, and the rosette isn't going to be easy..

I remember from an old post that there's a clip that secures the Map-Light wire to the bottom of the glove box after it exits at the bottom of the door. Does anyone recall seeing such a clip or know whether its available?

well I went ahead and ordered a rosette from Authentic Classics since I needed a dash speaker and a couple of other things from them. I installed the rosette today and thanks to Ctaylor's instructions, realigning the glove box door wasn't that bad - just had to go slow and take care not to scratch the door or dash. I'll install the new dash speaker once I replace the broken bulb holder on the heater control lever. Thanks again to Joe (JA17) for the bulb holder!  :)
