Title: Stamped serial number on trunk lid
Post by: col320ce on January 05, 2021, 21:08:10
Should there be one on the trunk lid?  If so where?

My trunk lid does not fit very well so I'm trying to work out if there is just too much filler where the gaps are or if it has been replaced.

No.

Hello Col,
Our SLs usually do not have a stamped body number in the trunk lid and doors or the fresh air scoop.

Only early '63 SLs have that.  8)

Check the hinges to see if they are bent.  Sometimes the wind catches the trunk lid as it is opening and jerks it up, bending the hinges. Once the trunk hinges are bent the gaps and alignment are all out of whack.

I found this hidden number on the hard top in addition to the one under its base closest to the boot/trunk... Just posting as I found it interesting.
