Title: power steering box re-seal
Post by: dirkbalter on December 20, 2020, 00:16:11
Hello.
As I am attempting to reseal my power steering box, I ran into a problem. While the disassembly started promising, I am stuck, trying to remove the (pitman arm ) shaft.
The shaft moves approximately 3/8 and stops. I tried light tapping with no success. I recognized a retaining ring (see pic) that I cant seem to be able to remove.
My questions to the guys that may have done that:
Any suggestions on how to remove the shaft in general?
Does the retaining ring need to be removed in order to slight the shaft out?
Am I missing something?

Thanks in advance.

Hi,
do you know chapter 46-27 of workshop manual 1959: https://vdhflipbooks.de/books/WHB/WHB1959-Band-3/#320 ?*
Bring steering shaft in center position, remove retaining ring, knock out shaft.

WRe,
Thank you much. I think my membership expired and I have to re-register with them again.
My BBB (1959) does not have that section.
However, I was playing with it last night and finally figured it out. Once I start re-assembling I am expecting many more questions to come up.
