Title: Winscreen wiper adjustment
Post by: col320ce on December 11, 2020, 01:15:00
I can see the 10mm bolt just off the arm of the wiper motor to adjust the wipers but I can't work out how to stop the initial 'dip' the wipers are making before operating correctly (ie they initially are traveling in the wrong direction when first operated).
What's the correct adjustment for this?
Thanks!

Worked it out.... There are splines on the bottom of the motor (14mm nut). I just rotated the arm attaching to this and it's stopped the drop before working.
The wipers are just still (just) hitting and I can't get it to go unless the arms are parked higher that what looks correct.

col320ce, it has been explained on the forum (like, I think, everything...): when the motor arm and the wipers lever are forming a straight line - this is the zero point. When you tighten them together and fit the wipers arms at their zero position - they will go up without dipping.

Caution, never work on the wiper linkage with the ignition on. The wipers can activate automatically, if you move past the "parking" position. If your fingers are in the linkage when this suddenly happens, you will get hurt!

Thanks Joe and Pawel...
The wipers park in a good place and the glove box side is on top.  If I adjust the 10mm bolt that adjusts the sweep start and end points I can only get the wipers not to hit if the park position is "high". They're are only just hitting BTW... And it's the metal part not the rubber.
I've tried moving the wiper on its spline but this makes the park position look very wrong.
I assume there is no more adjustment anywhere else?... I kind of want to move one blade half a spline...

BTW.. Took her out for a drive today... First time she's been drivable since April

So the complaint is that they are hitting each other? Are they the proper length? Also: the park position in such that the passenger arm is well above the driver's side arm. Drivers arm is close to window seal, the passenger arm is, well, an inch above or so, maybe a bit more.

Hi Pawel
I worked out what the problem was... There was too much laxity (wear) in the joint where the blade attaches to the arm. I put a washer in there to fill the gap (cut a slit in a copper washer and pushed it in).
Now they don't hit!
