Title: Weather Stripping
Post by: Mpgeslak on October 21, 2020, 16:49:54
Hi all,

Looking for help with Weather Stripping Adhesive.   I have read a number of posts about problems with non-original seals and thus am buying all original MB seals for doors and windows.    I have also read to use 3M 08008 for Rubber seals and 08011 for EPDM seals.    I haven't been able to find anything definitive to say weather new seals from Mercedes are definitely EPDM, I did find a couple of threads where individuals said they assume they are EPDM because they are new.   Is there a definitive view on this, or a way to determine which they are?

Thanks for your help

Michael

I've always used 3M Black Weatherstrip Adhesive 80119.

I could not find 3M in my geography, so I used this for several applications: TEROSON 2444 TEROKAL 340G. Loctite product, certainly.

You can buy the same thing with Daimler sticker on it at the MB dealers, just 3 times more expensive. Forgot PN, but it is irrelevant, as you are much better off buying it in town.

Thanks Pawel and Jordan.  I’m in the UK and I can’t seem to find either of the recommendations here!  Do you know if the material is Neoprene Rubber of EPDM?

Data for 3M 80119.  https://www.3mcanada.ca/3M/en_CA/company-ca/all-3m-products/~/3M-Weatherstrip-Adhesive-80119-black-5-oz-150-ml-/?N=5002385+3293770763&rt=rud

Looks like it is excellent for bonding EPDM rubber.

Thanks Pawel.  Every website I look on has a lead time of over a month, and most require a bulk purchase?

I agree Jordan, the 3M 80119 looks perfect and can be used on Neoprene Rubber and EPDM Rubber.   I can't seem to find it in the UK at all?

Seems like I can get 3M 08011 and 08008 through either Ebay or Amazon and shipped to the UK.   Just not sure which one I need

You need 3M 08011 (for EPDM) but not the old 08008 (not suitable for EPDM).
