Even though the 185 is the tire on record, I have also enjoyed up sizing to 205/14's. Will a 215 also fit successfully?

I have 205s on my car (on alloys) and 185s on steelies. I think the 205s are just a little bit too large (ie, tall) and the 185s are a little too small. Perhaps 195/70s are the ideal size ....
You will find many discussions on this topic in the forum. Some have suggested that the extra weight of the larger tires increases wear on chassis components, but I haven't seen any science on that -- I expect that there is a single-digit pound weight increase over the 185s and I doubt that our very robust Pagodas would have a significant issue with this, but I'm open to anyone that has data to show that there's an actual mechanical impact vs. the stock tire size.

Hi,
which is often not considered that the enlargement of the tires leads to an additional load on the frame and suspension.
In this context, I have heard of a damage pattern that occurred directly when using larger tires. Due to the increased load of larger tires, the power steering with the sleeves was torn from the frame or the fastening screws broke off, caused by operating the steering while the vehicle was stationary, the frame moved back and forth up some millimeters. After these cases occured a reinforcement bracket was welded to the frame.
Nevertheless you should be careful!

The dwindling market for 205/14 tires and an increase in available 215/14's was the basis for this question.
I have been using the 205's on alloys for over 15 years without any issues.
I just like the idea of a wider footprint, but don't want to rub the wheelwells.
I did have a power steering seal dry and was replaced- only issue after 50 yrs. . Car sits more than being driven. Thanks

Or use 15 inch rims

Do you have hub caps to go with those 15" rims?
