Title: long style fuel pump, short style fuel pump

is there a reason why some 280SLs have a long fuel pump while others have short style?

Late 1968 (I believe) was when they switched from long to short pumps. Many cars have switched to short pumps over the years because of availability and ease of refurbishing.

They switched to the short style fuel pump with 280SL vin 10242.
