I don’t think this would be a new topic. Could have been dealt with before.
My RHD California is nearly coming to the end of “ nut and bolt” restoration.
The wind screen is two tone green colour. It has a sticker saying Royal Doulton Vinilex laminated. It could be original. The screen looks good with no scratches or stone chips. Only problem is that in the bottom corners, the vinyl has bubbled. Only noticeable if you look closely.
Should I put a new one or use the one which came with the car.
Any suggestions please.

OEM (Original) wind screens were Sekurit, and always have/had the three point star on them.
Replacements do not...
Yours, aside from the rather prominent "Royal Doulton" also has the St. Gobain glass logo on it...and no logo.
If your glass is in good shape, leave it alone. Once you start driving the car--the windshield will degrade, get pitting from stones, sand, wind, etc. and then you can change it.

It really depends on your nut and bolt restoration. If you are staying all original and will maybe show the car I would opt for a correct new windshield. If not then stick with your existing windshield.
Having to replace your existing windshield later when it starts to degrade will be a bit of a head ache. You'll need a new gasket when you do it and may damage the aluminum trim removing and reinstalling another windshield. You might also have to remove part of the dash to get the new windshield in place. All unnecessary if you change it now.

My experience: I left the old windscreen. Then I started driving the car. Then I saw all the scratches and imperfections. So I installed a new windscreen.

Label on a Pagoda windshield purchased from Tom at the Classic Center 2 years ago. I was expecting Sekurit.

Bali, if you are familiar with using a rope to install a windshield then you may be able to do it yourself. It will require at least 2 people and patience. I believe it has been described on other threads here so best do a search. If you have never done it before you should get someone that has to help you. This is what I did with another vehicle so I am more confident in doing it myself (with a second person) in future.

You may need to buy the new aluminum trim for the rubber seal at MB. I had to. Did not do it myslef.

I would get a professional to do the install. They don't charge much and there's a lot at stake!

Don’t attempt your first windscreen on a nuts and bolts project.

The MB dealer. Do not let them tell you "the car is too old, we do not have it".
They will not have not tinted, I suppose, it is not available, tinted is.
They have to go to subgroup "Heat Absorbing glass" and switch off the filters. Then you will have the PN starting with 113 for your windscreen. Could be GBP 800 or so.
You may need the rubber frame ornamental inserts as well, A 113 671 01 30 and A 113 671 02 30, if you cannot recover yours - but these you may look for outside of MB, they are expensive there. The 2 connecting clips for them are A 110 678 04 37. Rubber frame is A 113 671 02 20, I think best is to buy rubber from Mercedes.

Does your insurance cover include windscreen damage?
Mine started to delaminate lower left corner and I contacted the insurer asking them if this was a “covered item” and they said yes as it impacted the structural integrity of the glass.
A new one was ordered - with sun band- and was fitted by their fitters. In whom I was initially dubious but one of their long term fitters had a Pagoda so supervised the young guns who are used to bonding new screens, not roping them in. I supplied a new MB seal
JayManek on here is in Nuneaton and will likely know an old school MB fitter. Pm him.

Thanks for the replies. My car was in bits for over 2 years. So I have no insurance on it yet. Now it is time to insure it.

James while I am thinking of insuring my car. Can I put this query to you as you are UK based.
I have spent over 70k till now. Plus the car was bought for 38k. How should I go about insuring it and the company will ask for the value of the car. Just a thought as you would have gone through this in your case.

I am still on about the windscreen for my 250sl.
I was looking online for the screen and suddenly saw a new screen advertised for £ 150.00. It is green with darker green top end. Same as I am replacing.
It is a company called AGM class.
Has anyone heard of this company or dealt with this company.
It is possible to get a screen at this price.
Please some comments.

I have an agreed value on it but that requires someone to value it - I doubt you’d get insurance on the value you have in the car but... either way you’ll need someone who knows the cars (restorer, specialist dealer, MB club etc) to attest to the value )
You’ll find the likes of Hagerty etc will have the same requirements. Mines an unlimited mileage classic policy. If you’re a member of the MB Club you may get a discount with Footman James. Though I doubt the savings would be great as the classic policy is good value (quite low risk as you look after your car)

Be sure to check rubber prices from MB. I ordered a soft top seal from MB without checking price. Price was over £700.00.
I had to return it and swallow a 15% handling/restocking charge.
