Title: Need hood/bonnet for 70 280sl
Post by: CJHenderson on August 25, 2020, 22:09:45: I'm trying to locate a hood for my 1970 280SL, my hood can not be salvaged.

Don't forget to salvage the nut plates from the old one!

and they can order it for you.
I hope your insurance is paying though!

I often see the number '2' next to the 3-digit body number. Eg: 566-2

Someone once told me the "-2" denotes that a replacement hood was made. Sounds plausible - can anyone back that up? Tried looking up old posts for the answer but couldn't find it.

Post by: CJHenderson on August 28, 2020, 10:38:17: I went to MB Direct and they do not show parts for any vehicles built before the 1984 models. To get the new hood from Mercedes for W113 you have to go to your local Mercedes dealer and order it through them. This is the part number that the hood for a 1970 280SL A1138800056. The price tag is $6000.

Post by: CJHenderson on August 29, 2020, 22:02:33: I was able to look at the link and the hood does look in good shape but, Reflections Paint and Body came up with another idea and that was to measure out the left side of the hood frame then manufacture the same thing for the damage on the right side. It's a cheaper route to take and this will salvage the original hood. If this doesn't work then I'll be heading to get that hood for sure.
