Title: 230SL gas cap key code

Hello to all.
I would like to figure out my key code to get my gas cap functional. This is the cap that came on my 1966 230sl 4 speed.
I ordered all original keys from MB classic and the original door keys do not work on the cap.
I believe this cap is period correct or maybe for a W111.
Is there a key code somewhere on it that requires disassembly to be seen?
Can anyone verify application of this cap?
It is substantial in build quality and weight.

I have the same cap on my early '63 230SL. I bought a chrome cap and when locked I can pull it off, not good. The early cap is better made and very secure.

I believe it may be for a W111. It is built like a tank.
Mine needs a replacement seal and has no key.
I do not see any key code on it.
The only 2 reasons at this point to disassemble would be to see if key code resides inside some where or to see if tumbler could be replaced for one with key.

Beautiful period gas cap. I took mine off for sake keeping till I make a concours and use a MB 123 cap, non locking.

How many of you lock the cap ?
Are there any gas syphoners lurking ?

The gascap you have got is clearly not original for your car.
It's a sedan's gascap and also from a bit younger car.
This is a gascap for the one-key-fits-all system, that our 230ies and 250ies don't have.
The correct gascap for your car is the

A000 470 2030

which is only available from the MB dealer and it is pricey, sadly.
Sometimes K&K, Bud's or authenticclassic etc. have them in stock,
but those are pricey as well.
There are also aftermarket gascaps around (at least here in Germany) which are exactly like the original ones only less the MB star.

Your gascap cannot be opened. I have one like yours as well - was not successful so far.

Doesn't belong there...; also (very) early 230ies always had the A000 470 2030 gas cap.
Only late 280ies had the single two-sided key gas cap A000 470 4730 which looks basically identical to the earlier SL's chrome gas cap but only has got a different (one-key-system) tumbler.

Sad to say, but you need to get a correct one.
