Title: two way valve
Post by: mcclainjlkcmsncom on July 16, 2020, 16:57:30
Hello again on my 1972 M130 engine the distributor has vacuum until the car reaches 3000 RPM.From reading different posts I thought it should turn on the two way valve at around 2200 RPM.I have it timed at 8degrees BTDC and timing advances as RPM increases but I can only get it to about 30 degrees BTDC at 3000 RPM.Is this ok or should I be looking for something else?
Thanks

Just got back to working on the car (been sick)Didn't see any answers to my question here.Any thoughts on whether this is ok or should I be trying to get 38 at 3000 rpm

38 is better but that system has a different idle spec. TDC or a bit after that is where they normally run.

Thank you for your reply. But I am not sure what you mean.Is that at 3000 RPM the timing should be around TDC? BTW  at 3000 RPM this is where my two way valve activates and turns off the vacuum to the distributor
Thanks in advance for your reply.

It's been awhile I reread the reply from Benz Dr so I have it set at 2 BTDC seems like the best idle. At 3000 RPM I can get 30 degrees BTDC.Should my vac to distributor cut out then(at 3000 RPM)or should it be before then?

Thanks Jim

What distributor are you running? It has to match the system you are working with - 062 is the most common but there are others as well. Vacuum advance on that system should be about 22 degrees total with mechanical advance about 10 - 14 degrees total movement. This should give you mid to upper 30's of total advance.
