Hi folks
I have discovered that my 230sl has two different designs of window winder/crank, with the passenger side having the latter design.
Does anyone happen to have any early version please
Thank you
Katie

There are three versions of window cranks:
1. Early small knob, held in by a screw
2. Middle, big knob, held in by screw
3. Late, big knob, held in by a clip that is part of the crank insert pad (the upholstered colored thing)
You have a 230 SL so you should have the small knob version, the first one. Are you saying that your window cranks don't both look like #1? Pics attached.

I think what can happen is at some point your window regulator gets replaced and it gets replaced with the later style (that doesn't have a screw to hold in the crank, so your crank gets replaced with the later style also. Is this what has happened with your car?

Oh, and for what it's worth I have all types of window cranks...

Hello Scott,
great info; please add it to our technical manual. https://www.sl113.org/wiki/ChassisBody/Windows
Thanks.

Yup. That Scot guy sure has a good handle on things.

Amen to that! He's good on Becker radios too! The window handle guide should be in the Tech Manual!

OK, I'll put the window handle guide into the tech manual, along with samples of which types of crank insert fit for each one... :-) Scott

Hi chaps
Thanks for your replies.
So, the drivers door has the first style, which is the correct one, with a small knob.
The passenger has a different design, which is incorrect and the one I need to replace, if I can
Pictures attached

Once I’ve replaced the incorrect one I will have a #2 style window winder/crank handle available if someone needs one 😂
Also, I know I may be being a bit odd, but it seems ver ‘unGerman’, but the windows operate in different ways:
- drivers side the winder is turned clockwise to lower the window
- passenger side, if the winder is turned clockwise it raises the window!!!
Is this normal???

I need a picture of the passenger side, without the crank insert installed. Then I can tell you the answer.

So, this is the wrong design for the year, although it does appear to have a small knob?

No, that is perfectly correct. You said the passenger side doesn't match. Attach pic of the passenger side that doesn't match.

Most Mercedes sedans of the era W110, W111, early W108 with manual windows also used the early style window crank.

...which is why I have a nice box of them... I used to do a lot of junkyarding...
