I've just replaced my thermostat, so I had to remove the bolt (Big Bolt) that holds the fuel injection lines bracket in front of the engine. Now that I am putting things back together, I'm not sure if I am putting the wrong bolt back in place. I have a long bolt, about 2 inches that fits the threads , but seems a bit long for such a light duty task. I want to make sure I do not drive a longer than needed bolt into the engine block. It seems odd that such a large bolt would be used to hold the injection lines. Smaller bolt could have just fine.
Doers this bolt serve any other purpose, ie. holding something in place within the block, or is it just a bolt that goes in until no further???? Help. Thx

Yes, the bold is very big for what it has to do.
The dept you can measure with a pencil, or more professional with a caliper.
Be sure the thread is ok.

Just my two cents: if you are not sure it is the bolt you removed, you must measure the depth of the hole. There is a pivot of the chain tensioner inside that restricts the depth. This bolt is not holding it really, but needs to have the correct length.
I used thread sealer on it.
Also: I think I read somewhere that this bracket is used as a hook point for engine hoist, when you lift the engine. So the bolt is M10 if I recall correctly. Not sure if I remember it right...

It is also metric fine thread.

The bolt in question is 12mm x approximately 20-25mm with a 1.50 thread pitch. 19mm head for what that is worth.

great, thank you for the info. I appreciate it.

That makes perfect sense, I have seen newer models with an engine hoist hook in the same place. Looks like it does not hold anything together internally, but needs to be a large bolt for hoisting sake. Thank you for the info. I appreciate it.
