need a later model cylindrical fuel sending unit.
anyone has a good unit by any chance?
thanks,
-
These were commonly used in the Mercedes W108, W109, W114 and W115 sedans of the era also. They do come apart and can be cleaned and fixed sometimes also. Be careful of the very tiny wires that are easily broken.

thanks joe!
i'm working on a car that hasn't been turned on for 30+ yrs. the fuel sending unit is dead already; i tried to save it but no chance. :)
is there any universal unit that many work?
or, any other less expensive interchangeable unit you know of? (new cost around $250+)
thanks again,
-
There are YouTube videos that show how to repair a sending unit. You have nothing to lose if you try to repair. If the wire inside is broken, then get a replacement.
-
In case you are OK with a reproduction unit if you can't repair your old one I have them on stock:

Hi, - for the later cylindrical sender unit with internal float -
in this thread of Pagoda forum you find a lot of information to repair your fuel sender, follow the links: https://www.pagodentreff.de/diskussionsforum/threads/tankgeber.12238/page-2#post-99739
especially here: http://w113.eu/geschlossen/Reparaturen/Geber%20fuer%20Kraftstoffanzeige%20Pagode%20W113.htm.
For a G-wagon but similar: http://www.hehlhans.de/tipp19.htm.
These cylindrical fuel sender units were made by VDO and similar units are used in other cars (e.g. VW) and even in the marine sector. These are much cheaper and may help to repair yours.

Thank you very much for these great information!
:)
my unit is damaged beyond repair.
I found a similar unit through vdo, however need a new plug.
Anyone know how to get this 2 pin plug in the attached picture by any chance?
-
Have you checked the plugs and pins in our Technical Manual? They are shown there. It is a 4 pin plug, just with 2 pins I suppose...
-
i have a good used one
email me at m300cab@gmail.com

I needed a fuel tank sending unit for my 66 230sl
The new ones are not as good as the earlier VDO made ones.
Mercedes Classic has the best price $206
I recommend Bernick as a contact point.
bernick.alvarez@mbusa.com
However the first one they sent me did not work.
The other option is to send your original out to someone like Morris Mintz at West Vally instruments and see if he can repair.
Seriously though $206 new is the best way to go.

Thanks a lot.
Michael has one unit, and i will get it from him.
In the meantime, I contacted VDO and received the specifications of the Fuel Sending unit 1105421204(64) See attached pictures for specs.
The closest model they currently have is VDO 224-215.
Ohm reading is 90-0 | L:150mm | Pins: 54mm | Flange: 71mm
