Hello dear Pagode lovers,
Does anyone know how to fold the protective cushions on the dashboard? I have tried it a few times, but the result is not good.
The 3 protective pillows were missing on my 230SL. I recently found them, but in a different color. Now I have found the leather in the right color, but the pleating is not beautiful.
Thanks for your ideas,
Free Keun

Are you referring to wrapping leather over the dash panels? Professionals use many techniques including skiving the back of the leather (making it thinner), steam and applying muscle in the right places. If not sure, a job best left to a professional.

Dear Free,
See the video - it may help a little. I know this is a "sales" video but it may help you understand the reasons you might be having trouble.

Watch his other videos as they may help.

Oz,
Are you referring to the Heritage Upholstery YouTube video?
-
Yes. Heritage. I thought added a link but now realized I never put the link. Corrected.

Here's another video, but does not include the skiving noted by Frank, above. This guy is good.

Good luck!

Just to give a sense of what it takes to wrap leather over a single part:
The video is 1 hour long is is shown at at lease 2X normal speed.
The video does not include drying time of each glued segment.
When wrapping a piece with multiple contours, he starts in the center and works his way out in small segmented increments.
I notice his segment patterns are different one side of the instrument cover than on the other.
Just like all other aspects of a restoration, Excellent results, take time, patience and skill.
