I would like to hear from the forum about experience with outdoor, water tight, good fitting car covers. I need to be able to store my 230SL outside in the elements here in East Tennessee. What has been good experience?

This is like asking about the best pizza place in any particular city...!
In any case, I will chime in. I have a NOAH fabric cover that I purchased from Griot's a large number of years ago. I don't store my car outside but they list it as such. I have used a NOAH cover on another car when I store it in an outside car park when traveling (oooh, remember when we used to actually travel to places.....)

Harry probably, the best way to answer your question is , long term --NO--,
although there are car covers that ,are are water tight, good fitting, and do help
in keeping your classic ok, in my experiance over 50 years, have done this ,namely
very south Invercargill New Zealand, where i was born, covers dont work.
Here is some of the problems that arise from doing this, damp conditions, mildew,Rodents,
rust and corrosion starting from this enviroment.Probably the worst, is condensation
if you block of the whole car ,so that no air can circulate in and around your car, condensation
gets into all mechanics, ill give you an example.About 1969-76, NewZealanders a huge boating country
that have there boats parked outside, many owners would throw water proof tarpoulins over there boat and there
outboard motors sitting at rear, if long term, many of these engines would seize, I remember Mercury ,sent out a warning about this.
So i would consider you building at least a covered car port , with a quality breathe able cover, on a damp proof ground cover. regards .

I vaguely remember a discussion here where people have stored their cars in "bubble" garages but can't find it.
Perhaps it was something like this one?

Totally agree with what Wayne said and you should use the product Alfred is talking about, a Car Bubble or Capsule

Just to add my two cents any kind of strapping down of the cover leads to either the straps or the cover itself rubbing against the car in the Wind not even strong when just slight wind over numerous days will cause damage to the paint especially because where it rubs against is usually the areas that when painting a car get the least amount of paint because they are edges. Alfred, I love your post and could not resist laughing. My instant reaction was that they should have made their "bubble garage" from transparent material. You may have to read your quoted words without pause between the word "garages" and "but". It's probably easier to lose ones car in a bubble garage if one is my age.

Weathershield HP are excellent covers. They are very soft. lightweight and you car will be spotless underneath even when left outside for long periods. I highly recommend them.
