Title: March 1971 - March 2005

I believe it was 34 years ago this month that production of the W 113 ceased.

Hey Doug.
It could be. I'll snoop around and see what I can find on that. I'm right across the river in NJ from you this week and next.

Does anyone know what happened to the last Pagoda?  I don't believe the 113 at the classic center is the "One".

There was a car for sale on ebay a couple of years back, a metallic red US-spec 280 SL, that the seller claimed to be the last one. As I recall, it was in the South somewhere, possibly North Carolina. Anyone else remember it?

Hello W 113-Fans,

AFAIK the last 280 SL was built in February 1971, this is also what our "built-by-month" table says.
I don't actually remember where that was or where I saw the picture of the last 280 SL built (no. 023885) together with a couple of MB-people presented around the car. None looked happy.  :(  :(  It was definitely a white US-version car.
I try to find that pic again.

Best,

Doug,

I remember that car.  It was offered by a dealer in Raleigh.  It was one of the last 5 built, but it was not the last one, I do remember that.  The car had been restored and I remember being less than whelmed by the overall car.

Best,

Tom

Achim, I have no doubt that you are correct about February 1971 being the last month of production, but I feel compelled to point out my (erroneous) source: p.83 of Frank Barrett's "Mercedes Buyer's Guide."

Thanks for setting us straight. It's good to see your name here & we need to hear from you more often.

Does anyone know how many Pagodas, on average, were built per day? I'm thinking toward the final years it was around 30, but really not very sure of that.

Just another of those curious questions.
