Title: help with WRD confused
Post by: mcclainjlkcmsncom on May 07, 2020, 03:28:03
I have been trying to get this car running right but still not too much luck.I noticed that the WRD was still sucking air with my finger over the filter port.I took it off and followed instructions from here cleaned it and put it in water at 170 degrees.I blew thru a hose I connected and there was no air coming thru so I am assuming it is working properly.I reinstalled it on the IP and started the car.It starts ok idles nice till it warms up to 175 degrees. Then the idle drops a lot so I thought it was working but I still feel air coming thru enough to suck my finger in.I am not sure what to do next.I have read here that I should add or subtract shims.I have read maybe the oval shims that go under the WRD or maybe round shims that would go between the thermostat rod and slide valve.I have posted other questions here and have received good advice but I think that I really can't go any further in adjusting a/f until I solve this problem first. Then hopefully I can start tackling other problems .I would really appreciate any help since I have to get this car running soon.
thank you all

At full operating temperature 180 F, the slide valve in the WRD should completely block the air passage. You can add round shims to accomplish this. Very slight suction leakage is normal. Next add or subtract the oval shims to adjust WRD cold running mixture.
