Title: Spanner size to fit brake light switch nut.
Post by: Mike H on May 03, 2020, 05:51:01
The brake light switch nut and rubber buffer ( which cushions the brake pedal ) were missing on my car, a 64 230 SL auto.
The nut is a 113 part only, and no longer available. The switch looks original from the catalogue drawing, Cat A 1963.
I need to know the spanner size for the nut.
Also, is the same nut used on 250 and 280 SL's.
Thanks,
Mike H.

Mike, I can't comment on the spanner size for the nut, but I can confirm that 230, 250, and 280 models use the same nut.  Part number 113-545-00-72.

Do you have the big parts book A 1963? The 230 SL parts books list all the nuts and bolts and their DIN number, which will give you the size of the nut. If not - can you post a snapshot of the proper page from the small book and designate exactly what part it is? From that we can look it up.

Thanks so much to Aaron and Jonny for your replies.
And to Sead......your're a champion!
Those photos are perfect.
I have done some rough working drawings to have the nut reproduced, and an engineering firm will run the job in about a weeks time.
Now those photos from Sead will mean an accurate replica is produced.  I have opted to have it made in brass at extra expense, so no plating, or rust.
If there are any owners interested in acquiring a part that is NLA,I Have ordered 6 units produced,so 5 available.
If not, I'll only do one.
Thanks again guys,
Mike.

Hi Mike,

I thought I’d ask my question on this post in the hope you’ll read it as I’m aware it’s quite old, but I know you’ve played in this area.

I’ve been fitting my pedal box back in and I’ve noticed that the brake pedal return spring rubs on the top of the plug for the brake switch.

It appears to have been doing it well before I got hold of it and there’s no other way the switch can be fitted to stop it from rubbing, even if I wind it all the way in.

Whilst it is only just touching the spring, it still is and I’m wondering if anyone else with a RHD Pagoda has seen the issue.

I’m going to live with it, as the spring and switch cannot be mounted any other way to stop them touching.

Thoughts?

Thanks Doug.
