Hello all,
As part of my rear axle rebuild, I intend to rebuild the tailing arm bushings. The BBB shows the washer, item # 6, held in place with a retaining ring item # 3.
Looking at my trailing arm, I don’t see a retaining ring. It appears that the washer is welded instead.
I searched around in the forum but couldn’t find anything.
What am I missing? Can someone comment on this or point me in the right direction?
Thank you much

The "Weld" you are seeing is actually the retaining ring. It started out round and corroded down to a fillet. If you look carefully you will see a break in the fillet somewhere. You need to compress the "Washers" in order to get the retainer out. I used a couple short pieces of pipe that fit over the center bushing. I cut a U shaped notch on one pipe so I could reach in and pick the retainer out. Put the whole mess in a vice and squeezed it down. This has been posted on before so do a search for "Control Arm" and you should find at least one picture of this.

Some useful info for instance in this Forum posting:

Much appreciated everyone. @ Shvegel - That's exactly what it was. Just looked to much like a weld beat to me.

Sead, it may or may not matter so much to you or others, but all of the hardware in this area is supposed to be black zinc oxide coated, not yellow zinc chromate.
