Title: Exhaust Manifold Stud Hardware
Post by: W14 on May 09, 2003, 13:33:26
Hello All,

I am just about to re-install the exhaust and intake manifolds to the head.  Should there be washers between the stud nuts and the manifolds?
Mine just has the nuts, which doesn't seem correct, especially for these "split" manifolds.
Thanks,

On my 1969 280 SL there are washers there. I would not dream of NOT using good quality washers. These manifolds are pretty expensive to replace, and they can break. Also watch for the connection between the manifolds and the exhaust downpipes - overtightening these can also cause breakage.

Ok, thanks Cees - I'll rustle up some washers!

Will,
Go for the original washers and nuts.
I think the washers are quite hard and of course the right outer diameter and the nuts are copper coated.
Sorry part numbers not to hand

Thanks Naj, I'll check to see what the local MB dealer has.
