Title: Rear shock tower plastic covers
Post by: john.mancini on April 29, 2020, 22:02:53
I have searched all of the old threads on this topic and I'm not certain that there was a consensus about the rear shock plastic covers found in the trunk. Years ago I found this pair on a 65 230SL that was being parted out. I know that the front shocks had plastic covers on the 230SL's and all but late 250 SL's. Has anyone come up with a definitive timeline for rear shock covers, if they even existed on 113's??? It seems that there were enough cars out that may have had them.

Not installed on W113 cars

^^What Hans says.  Granted, they'll fit on a W113, but aren't correct for a W113.  These were used only on W108, W109, W110, W111 (sedan, coupe`, cabriolet), and W112 (sedan, coupe`, cabriolet).

And what are you referring to when you mention front shock plastic covers?  The front shocks didn't have any type of plastic covering on them, either.  Are you maybe thinking about the sub frame mount limit stop?

Yes, sub frame mount covers.

FYI - The subframe covers were discontinued at VIN ending 4190 on the 250 SL

My late production 1970 has the rear covers.  Any chance they snuck them in at the end of production?

I've only seen them on a couple of 230SL's, but they must have been installed by previous owners. Not sure why?
