Gave my 230 an oil change today and managed to crack the filter housing (thin aluminium) - as they are NLA, I'm considering two options - OEM at USD 158,- (+shipping) or this remanufactured alternative which claims to be stronger https://www.authenticclassics.com/Mercedes-Engine-Oil-Filter-Housing-p/auth-003520.htm
Which one would you guys go for?

PS: Fixed to cracked one with a jubilee clip, but it's temporary at best...

This housing part was there on many M-B engines. A wrecking yard should have one for you.
But, also, have you asked Folmer?

These oil canisters can crack when someone accidentally installs two upper O-rings in the top groove of the canister. Make sure you have only one rubber O-ring seal in the top groove. Yes, many Mercedes sedans of the era used this canister. Most four or six cylinder Mercedes 1960 through 1972 are correct. In addition, some four cylinder sedans used them for a longer period.

There is one other option and that's a spin on oil filter adapter.

Mbzse - good idea, he has tons of stuff lying around, but he's quite far away (yes, I know we are a small country compared to you) so it's easier and less expensive to order something online from abroad than go see him. So he'll be my secondary option.

Am I to understand that the 190SL filter adaptor also fits the 230-280SL cars? I have a 1970 year 280SL due for an oil change and would like nothing better than to install a spin-on filter if at all possible and with no long term dire consequences.

I opted for this on my '69. A few others here are also using this adapter.

I purchased the one from Authentic Classics because I discovered my original housing did not have the hat shaped cap that covered the inner seal was missing. Very nice and sturdy but does not have the fins of the original. I saved my original but the new one stopped oil leaks so the inner seals are a must!

@mbzse: Folmer have a restored (bead-blasted) OEM that he will send, only 800,- DKK, so I'll opt for that for now
