Title: hood insulation pad
Post by: joelj on March 08, 2005, 12:00:00
Hi guys,

I saw that a hood insulation pad is available through SL classics. I was wondering if this was standard equipment on a 69  280sl. I recently acquired my 280sl and noticed that my hood has no insulation pad.

Many thanks,

Joelj

I don't think any W113 came with a hood insulation pad.

It was not standard or even an option.  One could apply a pad but it may cause excessive engine heat build up.   A properly tuned engine and valve clearances should make the engine humm-no need for the pad.

I hear on good authority that you should NOT use a hood pad.  The hood was made of aluminum specifically to dissapate heat; blocking the heat transfer is asking for trouble.
