Title: Leather insert for 230SL ashtray

Hi folks

Does anyone know where I could obtain, preferably in UK or Europe) a black leather insert, of the same grain and embossing for the time period, for an early 230sl.

I’ve undertaken a trawl of the internet and can only seem to find whole ashtrays.

I bought leather from Hans Reinke, but you would have to verify if this is the pattern you need...

Hi Katie,

I have still some black leather 9000 left over from the reupholstery.
Its black 9000, see picture.
It is not much you need, maximum 15 x 8 cm.
If grain and black 9000 Satin Gloss is okay, I can send you the piece via mail.

My car has leather interior. 280SL. I have not looked in a while and I cannot right now, but I seem to remember the insert in the ash tray is not leather. ???

That's correct. It's always (upholstered) plastic foil, not leather.
Very "MB Tex"-like but actually, it isn't.

Best is try to find something that is similar in grain as yours.
The grain pattern changed a bit over the years ....
