I wish to add hazard warning flashers on my 113s.
Anybody here done it?

Actually my car has the large red knob on the dash to operate the flashers as hazard lights - however it is defective. Mine is a US-model 280 SL, I never checked whether other W113 models also have this switch.

Late 280sls had hazard warning but 230s, 250s and early 280s did not. My '68 280 does not.
I believe hella used to do a retro fit kit.Just wanted to know if someone here has done it.
I think its quite an important safety feature to add.

My early '67 250(0001854) euro spec has 4 way flashers and they work too :D
Don't think they were retofitted either. Though strangely they only work with the keys in, I think, I'll have to double check that. Which is like my trunk light which only works when the parking or headlamps are on, and I believe is wired correctly as well.

Yep exactly the same spot and style.
Interestingly I just searched my 250 Euro owners manual(6 languages) and there is no mention of it that I can find. I also have a reprint of a US 250/280 owners manual that refers to the use of the "optional hazard flasher control that works regardless of key position or signal arm position", but does not show it in either the 250 or 280 wiring diagrams. Frank Mallory's chronology states that the 4 way was "made standard" at the beginning of the 280 sl production in Jan. 68. I guess it was an option for 250's but from what production point is unclear.

Mr Mallory could be wrong. My 280sl chassis # 003469 does not have the switch.

According to the German sl-club-pagode/Fahrzeuginfo website, for US-models the hazard warning flashers were standard as of 230SL 113.042.--.012498.
The German version received the flashers as standard equipment only with the 280SL 113.044.--.012089.
The flashers were available as a dealer installed option before, however.
My (280SL, production Oct.68, US model) flashers work without key and without engine running.
The hazard warning flasher wiring is included in the electric wiring diagram in the BBB, US version, as item 22 (page 15.54.82-0/7)

Well now I'm having doubts about the originality of mine. I discovered that mine only work with the key in the on position, which can't be right, and there is no mention, on the fuse cover, of a hazard light. Maybe it was added by a previous owner.

Thanks for the wiring info. I have found a Hella unit complete with wiring and switch but it will have to go under dash as it has a red pull button with warning light.Your info will help me connect it up.

Changing your hazards to work without key should be straight fordward. Just change the feed to the switch to a live feed.Fuse # 1 (?)
