I'm preparing to paint my car, but I've been unable to find a paint supplier that has a formula for my 1966 050 paint code. Does anyone have a recommendation? Many of the automotive paint suppliers are prepared to match my car, but the paint is so old that I'm not sure that is what I want to do.

Are you painting the entire car, or just some of the panels?

Glasurit was the original manufacturer of 050G. Did you try a Glasurit supplier?

I'm painting the entire car, eventually. Need to paint the engine compartment first. Plan to install the engine and then paint the entire car.

Most any automotive paint supplier can match the 050 color with most any of the paint they sell. But you can not get the same paint that the car was painted with when new even from Glasurit. Glasurit is now a part of the big chemical company BASF and the kinds of paint used now are different than 50 years ago. To top it all off, there are emmissions laws that restrict the type of paint you can buy in California.

The closest to original we can get for solid colored paints is by using Glasurit 22 Line. It's a 2K (2 Komponent) single stage paint, and it has a very long shelf life, but only in its natural form. If you mix hardener into it it'll last about a week. However, as MBPaul stated, California made it illegal to use anything but water based paints. So if you want a good paint job you'll have to have the car painted in Nevada or Mexico. The thing about the Glasurit 22 Line is that it'll outlast and out shine any new modern paint, but finding someone that knows or is willing to work with single stage paint is another challenge.
