Title: Exhaust heat shield
Post by: Vander on January 05, 2020, 14:35:29
I am looking for a 280SL heat shield that goes between the exhaust manifolds and intake, clamps too. Does anyone have one?

Hi Vander,
They are quite tricky to get out between the manifolds and after 50 odd years they normally look crappy.
The usuals have them for around 100€ and with a bit of patience, are possible to fit one without damage.
Good luck,
Chris

I bought one a couple of years ago from MB. What I see today:

A 130 141 00 21 Screening (heat insulating plate) NLA, but then

A 000 141 10 21 Screening, ca$120 - but I have no idea how this one looks like - if it is not some sort of replacement, just not sure

You will need clamps as well. And for clamps I see:

A 000 995 16 35 clamp, ca $6

And for you really crazy people out there, don't forget to re-use the small circlip on the threads of the clamp for the heat shield. I believe these were used at the factory to hold the screw for the clamps in place during assembly.

When judging I have used this as a tie-breaker.

Absolutely critical!

Judging is one thing, the other is - you will crtainly lose the screw without it. I bought those clamps from MB and they had the circlips.

The clamp from SLS does not look, I think, as it might have, I am afraid. The original clamp is profiled to fit the manifold shape. Tightening mechanism may also be a bit different, I am not sure.

On the picture you can see the clamp from MB, the circlip is, obviously, there.  :)

Also: these plates were two metal sheets with fibre between them (glass fibre, azbestos?). It is not a plane metal sheet cut and formed.
