Cory, you may want to check, but following some discussions on this Forum I came to conclusion that 280SL had black thumb nuts for their headlight assemby in the trunk (late style), e.g. https://www.sl113.org/forums/index.php?topic=28383.msg205095#msg205095
You can buy them at Mercedes dealer, A 111 990 02 57, should be $5-6 dollars per piece, you need 4 for 280SL late style, they hold the bulb holders, not the entire lamps, unless you have other type of lamps where you need to remove the entire lamp to get to bulbs.

Thanx very much for your valued information.
Cory

Pawel: was that a special option? "headlight assembly in the trunk" … Have not seen that and mine does not have them. ??? ??? ;)

Mike, my mistake - tail light, not headlight obviously, sorry - I was saying that late 280SLs might have had black thumb nuts in the trunk for their late style tail light assembly. These black thumb nuts were holding just the bulb holder, not the entire tail lamps. If this conclusion is true or not - that is another story, I came to think that after the discussion on this topic.
