Title: Axle shaft query
Post by: swood1 on November 08, 2019, 14:59:27
Not that I  don't trust previous owner but I am about to pop my new bearings on my axle shafts and I was just wondering is there an easy way to confirm which axle shaft goes which side?

If you look at th3 attached photo the one at the bottom of the photo (with yellow paint on) came out the left-hand side of my differential.  Does this look correct?  The one at the top of the photo has a large step close to the end and came out the right side.  Is there a reason for the different steps?

Regards

Steve

That looks correct according to the parts diagram (late 230 version).
I don't know the reason for the step(s).

Yes the one with the wide band (top) is the right side. With the 280s there is a groove cut at the end of the right axle for a spring clip.
