Gentlemen,
I have now entered the stage of the body restoration and I am preparing my 280SL for a repaint job. With that comes re-chroming and a new interior and soft top.
I 'd like to remove the cylinders of the door handles so that I can have the (empty) handles re-chromed. I first tried on the trunk lock... I managed that, so now I am encouraged to do the same on the door handles.
I have read through all (I think) the posts on this forum about the disassembly of the door handles, but I have not found the answer to my question:
How do I remove the cylinder (the part that you push with your thumb to open the door), from the doorhandle casting? I have removed the circlips and the spring. What is the next step now? (see pic please, this is how far I have gotten).

You may have to insert the key. I have done this with other locks. It levels the pins and it should slide out.

Thanks, Badali,
I have not made myself clear. I have inserted the key and then, indeed the cylinder comes out. However, I want the housing that holds the cylinder to come out.

Hi Jan,
There is a ring (see blue arrow) which you can take out with a screwdriver.
Then the you can take out counter ring, spring and the cylinder.
Succes, Peter
