Title: Best adhesive for hardtop weatherstrip
Post by: lowpad on October 31, 2019, 18:39:33
About to replace the rear hardtop-to-body weatherstrip.  Any recommendations on the ideal adhesive?  Does 3M make something for this type of application?  Appreciate any counsel from anyone that’s replaced theirs — couldn’t find much in the archives.  Thanks in advance.

This is the stuff I used. Bought it at O'Reillys.

Yes, the 3M works well. You can also order the weatherstrip adhesive from MB dealer, but I have used both and the 3M is as good or better.

Just been googling 3M black weatherstrip adhesive videos, what dynamite stuff it is. Good video below showing the correct way to apply, who new.

Thanks for the tips.  I installed my seal tonight — will see tomorrow if I did it correctly!

Installed the seal tonight, but a challenge to get in place without getting glue on oneself!  The video on glue application was really helpful.  Interestingly, I found that there were two small flathead sheet metal retaining screws at both rear corners on the lower layer of the weatherstrip. Not sure if they were factory installed or not (no holes in the weatherstrip for them).  Anyone find them on their top?

Bought the seal at Authentic Classics, but the Classic Center had a lower price.

Also had a tough time with the button-sized seal that covers the hole for the rear bow retaining pin — seemed like it was just a touch larger than the old one.  Kept the old one instead — a project for next year.

In don't remember any flat head screws when I did my seal several months ago.
