Title: vibration
Post by: Bob G MN on September 27, 2019, 17:08:39
I know this is an old topic but I could not find much help in reading the messages.
I had my automatic transmission taken (230SL) out to do some repair work and the tech says there is now a vibration which he attributes to old motor mounts.  I have never had a problem with vibration before so I thinking something is not alligned properly.
does it sound right that the motor mounts need replacing

Vibration at certain speeds?

Did they drop the driveshaft to do work?  New Guibo?

They did drop the driveshaft so it is possible it is out of alignment but they think it is the motor mounts.
I pick the car up on Tuesday next so I can't comment on the different speeds.

The driveshaft halves are balanced together as a unit. If they were not marked before being separated then this could be the cause. There is also a spacer on the transmission mount that keeps the driveshaft u-joints in the correct alignment. Bad Motor mounts would also cause a vibration standing still so that one is easy to rule out.
