Title: Parcel shelf -- behind the carpet
Post by: pj on September 25, 2019, 04:48:19
Hello everyone,
There's a large piece of carpet oriented vertically on three sides of the parcel shelf, under the soft top compartment. Most of this carpet is solidly supported by sheet metal behind it. But please refer to the photo attached here and look at the area indicated by the yellow circle. What's behind the carpet in this location? And in the corresponding space on the other side. There was carpet there on our car, of course, before we took the whole thing apart, but we've lost track of what was behind there. Now, the time has come to install the new carpet and we're not sure how to prep the space behind the carpet in this area.

At my Pagode, there were these metal parts:

Aluminum covers - at least on the 230.

Don't know wheter those were made of steel sheet metal on later cars as was the case with the (leater/MB-TEX-covered) B-pillar trim.

Easy to reproduce...

Thanks for your posts.
Does it matter how these panels are attached, for true authenticity? Were they welded in the factory, or screwed on somehow?
What happens to the space in behind? Does it just remain empty?
