After changing the trans oil on my 230SL, my mechanic found some small pieces of debris that indicates overhaul of the friction plates/clutch plates. The trans is performing well and shifts good, but better to nip this in the bud.
I have the complete transmission gasket overhaul kit but wanted to check if you can still source the kits containing all the friction plates needed for the auto. I have seen the individual plates for sale but would be far easier to but the complete set.
Thanks

The clutch discs #112 272 02 25 are still available from Mercedes for about $30.00 ea. Plenty on ebay also (various prices) most are more than the dealer or just slightly less. Get a discount at the dealer and shipping is free when you pick them up. Arizona AH has them also but they are more expensive then the dealer.

Hi Joe
Thanks for your reply.
Do you know how many clutch discs are required for a rebuiild? Are there any additional discs or plates required along with #112 272 02 25, as I believe there are 2.2mm & 3.5mm discs?

Franjo, it is normal to find some tiny particles in the pan of the transmission. The clutch disc wear very little with this transmission. In any case the BBB or factory transmission manual will show the different parts and thicknesses. You can also go to this site... https://7zap.com/en/ and press "catalogs" then "Mercedes", next "230SL"' then "automatic transmission" when you get to the diagrams, press on the one you want and all the part numbers will appear when you press on each part.

Hi Franjo,
I just ran across this information. Seems a little pricey, but if these kits are out there, you may be able to find one at a better price.

Hi Joe
Thanks again for the handy call-out. It is exactly what I am looking for.
It seems to be priced well above what you would pay if items are individually sourced
But will keep looking for similar offerings
