Seller says it was "optional," but is mistaken. Nonetheless, it's an interesting idea:

How about that wooden piece on the top of the dash over the guages? I believe its the first time I've seen that; it must a part of the padded parcel shelf custom package option, that really isn't.

Anyone else ever seen these rare modifications?

I actually have seen that wood gauge cover before. I am pretty sure it is not a 113 thing but may have been for other models of that era.

The "buck" under the covering is wood on the W113.  On this car someone stripped the covering and finished the wood.  I can't imagine that it looks very good up close because the factory intention was only to have a form for the covering, so the wood itself and the workmanship are not finish quality.

 That does look weird... look at the front , straight on picture and it looks like the hood/fenders have seen a crash...bad alignment, to say the least..

That hood emblem is terrible .........a sure sign that someone doesn't know the model at all !

The wood dash isn't THAT bad particularly with the interior color combo but the dash has been left black ! !

Clearly, the placement of the emblem on the bonnet/hood is 190 SL "inspired" and the wooden binnacle on the dash  is 111 "inspired."

One of the photos clearly shows the dash color is actually a dark brown, probably 408 Havanna Brown.  The hubcaps and hardtop are very likely 181 Light Beige, and the body and wheels were resprayed to match (not yellow as stated in the description).  I have seen a number of 230SLs with this Brown/Beige combination and the tan interior.  The body plate over by the hood catch would probably confirm this.

We have talked about data cards here extensively.  I can't recall ever reading about such an option.

......the dash would still be the same colour as the body of the car though, and not matched to the hardtop or hubcaps.........correct ?

Yes, the dash is always the same color as the body. No exceptions.

Sorry for the confusion!  What I meant to say was that I think that the original body color (because in one of the better lit instrument panel shots the dash IS a dark brown) was probably 408 Havanna Brown, since originally the dash was always painted body color.  The car was likely resprayed to match the hubcaps and hardtop, which probably were originally 181 Light Beige, like my '66 230SL.  I have seen a number of 408/181 duo-tone 230Sls with the Tan interior, which appears to be a standard combination according to the available tables.  (Mine is the only one I have ever seen with a Cream rather than Tan interior.)
