Title: auto transmission noise
Post by: al11 on February 18, 2005, 15:15:42
My automatic 280 sl has made off and on, for the last week , a funny noise from the shifter area similar to something being dragged under the car . Does anyone know what the reason is?

Perhaps you're ragging something under the car!   :D   Did you check?

 - Does this happen in any forward gear?  (Try manually selecting them on your next drive.)
 - Does this happen in reverse?
 - Does this happen at any particular speed range, regardless of gear?
 - Does this happen when engine is under load (accelerating)?
 - Does this happen when engine is not under load (coasting)?

Al11,

Hving been through a disastrous, and expensive issue with the transmission and drive shaft that began with "funny noises" I suggest you get this car up on a lift ASAP and check out all transmission mounts, all bolts on the drive shaft and everything in and around this area.
