A bit of a preamble -
I have had my 250 SL for 16+ years, and have gone through more than a few gyrations to get it running as it should. Just recently I was having a hard time getting it to start from cold, lots and lots of cranking. So, investigated the cold start system using the information from the tech manual (here is my plug for full membership) - an invaluable resource. I knew the basic elements were the relay, the cold start valve and the thermo-time switch. My first check was a test light at the CS valve - no power during cranking - aha! Then reviewed the manual and found out how to determine which relay is which. Got that, then opened said relay and sanded/filed the contact points. Put it all back to together, tried the test light, voila! Power to the people! Car starts like before.
To my question. Now that the relay points have been filed, how long do you folks think the repair/fix will hold up??

That was my problem.
I'd think it'd hold for the next 15 years

Points are nickel silver. They really do last a long time.

Nice you found the issue and resolved so quickly!
Hope it lasts long!

Next time, after cleaning, spray them with a bit of contact cleaner. This will help also to slow down the carbon/corrosion build up over time. In any case, the fix should last for years.
