I will be replacing the cloth top for my Red Metallic 280SL and although the original was the tan color, I am thinking of changing it to something like a "Rust/Mahogany" or Maroon. See pictures. I have Cognac leather seats in the car.
Has anyone seen any similar combination that they thought worked well? I am interested in seeing any photos of Red Metallic cars with other color tops that worked better than the plain tan that always seems to look dirty.

Is the bottom one maroon?
Can't tell.
Of course, I would do red or black, but the darker the top, the better IMHO.
Good choice of not doing tan again. Gets dirty looking too quickly.

It doesn't look like Maroon on the Pagoda Forum website, but the bottom one, looked more maroon when I found it elsewhere.
Thanks for your suggestion and picture.

To me, those colored tops always appear cheap and loudly proclaim their lack of originality. If you feel compelled to stray from the tan, which I wouldn't, the only sensible choice is black.

I probably would try to find one in one of the below stock colors. So your car came with "beige"? I'd at least do "dark brown."

BLACK

Beige is a nice colour and when i had my 280, so long as you look after it it stays clean and just fine.

I appreciate your thought, and understand where you are coming from. I do want to stay within the original Mercedes available colors.

Thanks for that list. My data card number shows up as Tan on the club listing. I guess it is the same as your beige.

Yes, that is what I want to do.

I am with teahead! Dark Brown! Considering the interior color...

What did you end up going with? I have a red metallic car with parchment interior that came with a black soft top. I will likely keep the black when it comes to replacement, but tempted by the dark blue also.

I wound up going with the original tan color that it had from the factory. The new one looked fine.
