Title: Oil Dipstick Color
Post by: TJMart on July 30, 2019, 18:59:43
From reading prior posts the dipstick for a 1970 280SL should be painted red. Is there a specific "red" that should be used and where can I get it? Thanks in advance.

Hello Tony,

I don't know the original color code, but I have checked my dipstick (1969 280SL) with the RAL color codes.
The most similar RAL color is RAL 3001.

Thanks Peter! So I can take this color code and have the paint mixed to that color?

Hi Tony,

RAL is a general (not brand/make related) color-coding system used in Europe. I’m not sure if it is widely used in the USA.

On internet there are however site which can “translate” the RAL color code into specific brans/make.
The professional (car) paint mixed store should be able with this RAL code to prepare the right color.

Yes,
it's most likely RAL 3000 or 3001.
Something like "Fireengine-red".

Don't be too picky about this.
Just light red & okay.

... and? It's only the handle, not the whole dipstick.

Regards,
