Title: Looking for experience with selling pagoda through consignment.
Post by: fdiab62@hotmail.com on July 07, 2019, 23:29:52
Hi all,
I am considering selling my 1965 Pagoda, manual, 230SL, which I recently restored, through a consignment at a classic car dealer in the USA.
Is this a safe and effective way of selling.
I am worried about the care of the car during display and storage conditions.
Any advices and suggestions would be appreciated.
Thanks.

So you are not interested in listing it in the For Sale area of the Forum???

It is free and you get to set your price with out any costs what so ever or consignment fees.

Ya, try here 1st, hemmings, eBay.

Consignment usually eats up at least 10%

Anywho, I'm sure if it's a reputable outfit, shouldn't need to worry.

Google the outfit for reviews/horror stories.  Make sure your insurance covers any damage it may incur.  Ditto their insurance.

You might check out bringatrailer.com.  It's an online auction site.  If you search this site, you'll find several mentions of it.  There have been many Pagodas listed there and it's worth looking at the past sales (you can search under W113), especially the comments for each sale. If you have an original or well-restored car, BaT may be worth it.  But there are many not-so-experts there who will unhelpfully (and on occasion inaccurately) nitpick your car's condition.  A good listing will have many photographs and extensive documentation (ie, data card is a must) and you have to be prepared to respond to questions and potentially add photographs or additional information.  Others here may have had personal experience that they can share.

Fabi Diab--No need to sell on consignment,  If your Pagoda is priced right, for
the condition its in , you are better to sell ,like Garry and others have said, here first
on our forum, give it a couple weeks, then other sources, online,.if still not sold.
Keep your Pagoda safe and sound at your home, imagine if on consignment parts went
missing, you would always regret it.
The most important photos to show is under neath, chassis, rocker panels,
under fuel tank , under battery, etc etc,be honest show the  items  that are not perfect, etc,
then you will sell it fast .  regards Wayne.

PS, i purchase about  one classic every year for the last  ten years from USA,
I ask for about ten photos of the under side, if they dont give me those , i dont
go any further with the sale.

Tons of pictures and youtube videos help immensely!

I'm afraid the consignor will be super lazy and post no critical pictures, which is always a red flag to me (what you hiding?).

Buyers prefer to buy directly from the seller and no middle-man.  I hate dealing w/dealers and I'm not alone.

Be very descriptive too.

I just recently sold my Austin Mini on ebay in less than 3 days with close to asking price.  Buyer told me the videos were the deal maker!

Post it (no charge) on MercedesHeritage.com  It will get a lot of exposure (USA and European) and you can post pics.   Try and sell it yourself first.
