Title: almost ready for swing arm pivot pin
Post by: merrill on July 04, 2019, 00:45:55
whew almost ready for the swing arm pivot pin.

i spent about 2 hours getting the swing arm back in place.

it was a challenge getting the rubber o rings to stay out of the way and then align the copper washers, spacers , wedge washers and hanger with mount aligned,

thanks to Charles for his tip to use the conduit as a guide rod.

after i got it all together i was concerned that the hanger bushing was sticking out a little past the pinion mount but of course the rubber o rings are pushing things apart still

hopefully this will all work out tomorrow am when i get the dry ice to shrink the pivot rod and see if i can get this all back together.

Hopefully you marked where the flat spot for the pin is located, so you can position it for the installation of the pin.

hi Joe,
sure did!

I got the pivot pin in on the 3rd time, wedge bolt in the first try and the swing arm drive shaft on the first try as welll
stopped while i was ahead

the first 2 try's installing the pivot pin were due to mis alignment of the swing arm or the copper washers.
once i got those straight my guide rod would move smoothly throughout

the dry ice was a mixed blessing today, it was so hot and humid here in Austin that when i pulled the rod out of the dry ice,  it would immediately frost

once i wiped it clean i was able to get the rod about 60% in by hand, from there some firm taps with a block of wood and hammer the rod was fully home.

that was enough for one day for me, stop while i am ahead.

Matt -

Great progress. Be sure to note the required positioning of the boot clamps - see attached from BBB.

Looks like you and I got the same boot clamps
- FYI, if useful for others, got the preferred 9mm rolled edge hose clamps (see an older post from Joe) for the swing arm boot from kartek.com -
har-70    Norma 70mm To 90mm Diameter Narrow CV Joint Axle Boot Or Hose Clamps 9mm 23/64" Wide        $1.99
har-68    Norma 100mm To 120mm Diameter Narrow CV Joint Axle Boot Or Hose Clamps 9mm 23/64" Wide        $3.29

Charles
hi

appreciate the clamping requirement from the bbb.

I was pretty close (attachment)  the small clamp is just about right,   large is close.

I will see if i can get is facing straight down as directed in the bbb
